To Whom Much is Given, Much is Required

"While earning your daily bread, be sure you share a slice with those less fortunate."
-H. Jackson Brown Jr.

The measure of our wealth and worth is not found in what we have.   It is really found in what you give away.  Today is a great day to invest in the lives of others.  The return on your investment will yield dividends and rewards that will last a lifetime.  I have already mentioned in a previous post how rich I am- not in money, fame, or success, but in the things that matter.  I'm rich in faith, family, and friends.  And because of that I am happy to give back to people who need money more than I do.

I have two opportunities I'd like to share for you to help others who are in need.

The first one is through my church, Watermark.  Through the month of March, the Young Adult and Single Adult ministries of Watermark Community Church are offering a way for YOU to participate in God's work in Haiti as the country continues to rebuild and recover from the devastating earthquake of January 12th.  Through a partnership with GAIN (Global Aid Network www.gainusa.org), our goal is to accumulate supplies for and assemble at least 2,000 hygiene kits for the people of Haiti to be distributed there in the name of Christ.  We hope to far exceed this goal.  Here are the ways you can participate as well as help us involve others.

1. Personally sign-up to purchase and bring supplies for these kits.
2. Use your relationships with corporations or businesses who specialize in these products to acquire these supplies.
3. Engage your community (i.e. community group, workplace, apartment complex/neighborhood, etc.) to participate with you.
4. Sign-up to attend the Singles in Service Event on April 10th to help us assemble these kits.
In order to make sure we have a balance of supplies for these kits, we are asking that you go online here   for the complete list of items for these hygiene kits.  Then sign up online for the items you would like to collect or pick up your assignments at The Porch on Tuesday nights.

Once you have acquired your supplies, we will be collecting them at The Porch on Tuesday nights, in the 1st floor lobby of the Watermark Office tower during the week, and just outside the front doors of the tower on Sunday mornings.

In addition to the supplies, each pack will require $5 for shipping, so we hope you will consider giving financially as well to help us with this cost.  Simply give to Watermark Community Church and write "Relief" in the memo line of your check. We hope that you will prayerfully consider how God would have you participate and then jump in with us in helping Haiti.

The other event is near and dear to my heart because of the family that was effected..  Brandon and Tiffany Verzal were my boss and supervisor respectively when I worked at Texas A&M.  I learned SO MUCH under their guidance through their skill and talent.  I will have their full story closer to April 3rd, so check back in a couple of weeks.  But for now, I want you to know how you can help out their precious daughter, Alexis.

Brandon and Tiffany are running the Lincoln 1/2 Marathon to raise money for RUNNERS WITH A REASON - please make a donation by visiting their Firstgiving page: http://www.firstgiving.com/tiffanyverzal and any amount you give is wonderful!

Tiffany is running for Alexis- so that someday she might run too!  They money that you donate will go towards the Madonna Foundation (where Alexis goes to rehab every day) and also a portion will go towards helping under-privileged kids learn about health and wellness through running.

You can donate online with a credit card. All donations are secure and sent directly to RUNNERS WITH A REASON by Firstgiving, who will email you a printable record of your donation.

Thank you for all of your support- especially for Alexis and her ongoing rehabilitation.  (Tiffany and training buddies)
