We're Going to Laughlin

I started this blog as a way to really document my growth and my life here in Dallas, but in doing that, I have neglected to write anything about Cody.  So in this post I'd like to talk about a trip Cody and I were able to take to Laughlin, NV.  Never heard of it?  Me neither..

So apparently, Laughlin is right on the border of Arizona and Nevada.  It's basically a poor man's Vegas.  It has Casino's, some shopping, and a LOT of gray hair!!  I mean these are SERIOUS gamblers.  Now, I am really not one to gamble.  I love Vegas, but out of the 4 times I've been there, I've gambled once.  I put a dollar in a quarter machine and on the first spin I won $150 and decided to stop haha.. Shows you how much of a risk taker I am.

But apparently when you go to a casino and get a membership card, they keep track of how much you spend, how much you win, and how much you lose.. Then they try to give you free trips and free money to play at the slots to try to get you to spend more and lose more.  Because of that, the Horseshoe in Shreveport gave Cody and I a free trip to Laughlin.  Free airfare and free hotel!

So Thursday, February 18th, Cody and I flew out of Shreveport to Laughlin.  Cody has the greatest mom and step-dad and they let us just park my car at their house, and then Phillip drove us to Shreveport.  First stop, the Horseshoe!  Cody had a voucher for $150 which he just planned to play part of and cash out so he could give the money to Phillip for a golf tournament entry fee.  That didn't work.  Cody was only able to cash out what he had won, so he kept playing and won I think $80 to pay.  So at least it was a start!

Then on to Laughlin!!  Technically, we landed in Laughlin, AZ and then crossed the Davis Dam (I'm assuming the Colorado River) into Nevada.  We rode on a charter plane and then caught a shuttle to the hotel.  And was able to relax until our bags arrived in our hotel room.  And let me tell you.  I was about as lazy as can be when I am on vacay and the first night wasn't any different. :)  In the hotel I watch Grey's Anatomy and the Deep End.  Took a break for some food.. And then back for the Olympics!

The next day was a little less lazy.. I set my alarm for 7:55am to watch Tiger Woods' speech.  Because of the time change, it was on a little bit earlier out there.  I ordered room service, and I didn't get out of bed until 12:45pm (I said it was only a little less lazy).

Then to explore, the great city!!  haha

I do have to say the scenery was beautiful.  Reminded me a lot of my dad's house in Arizona.. Although it was so close to Arizona, it's no wonder..  And Cody had his first experience with In-N-Out Burger- only the BEST!!  But they are only in Arizona, California, and Nevada. (tear)  That night we had dinner at Baja Blue with some great queso and fajitas!!  And a good margarita if I say so myself.  We did some gambling... I won $50 and headed to watch the Olympics!  Cody fell asleep but I was completely into it and was excited to watch Evan Lysacek perform!

Now Saturday was not a lot of fun.. I felt sick to my stomach and had a horrible headache.  But I was still a good sport and walked into town for Cody and I to see The Book of Eli.  Awesome movie btw, but I just was not not feeling like seeing it.  We got back to the hotel and had time to relax and watch more of the Olympics, and then had a really nice dinner.

I have to say it was one of the best filets I have had.  It was so good!  And a great way to end the trip!  Oh, I almost forgot!!  I had told Cody the whole trip that I wanted to play the penny slot machines.  But they almost always seemed to be taken.  Until Sunday morning when we left.  So I sat down and played a dollar.  On the first spin the machine was going CRAZY!!  I got so mad because I couldn't spin the handle, couldn't push any buttons, and it was making so much noise!!  haha turns out I won $75!!!  So I wasn't so upset then.  I played the rest of my dollar and cashed out with 75 bucks in my pocket!

and that's Laughlin for ya ;-)
